Rainforest Species Identification Guide
This guide can be used to identify the Rainforest taxon based on the features of the leaves as described in the first list below. It is based on and can be used in conjunction with the publications "Rainforest trees and shrubs : a field guide to their identification in Victoria, New South Wales and subtropical Queensland using vegetative features and Rainforest climbing plants : a field guide to their identification in Victoria, New South Wales and subtropical Queensland using vegetative features (Gwen Harden, Bill McDonald, John Williams ; illustrator Gwen Harden)"
The guide has been divided up as follows
Plants with the following leaf features
- Simple or 1—Foliolate, in Whorls or Pseudo—Whorls
- Simple, Plants with prickles, thorns or spines
- Simple, Alternate with stinging hairs
- Simple, Alternate with pointed, rolled stipules or Sandpapery
Other Plant Forms
- Conifers And Plants with Leaves Absent
- Palms, Cycads and Palm Lilies
- Sedges and Rushes
Each species has a fact sheet with images of the main features and a link to all my phots on my 'Flickr' site. All names are a link to the relative fact sheets. All species can also be searched by either their Botanical Name or Common Name.
It is acknowledged that the Botanical Descriptions of the species are in most cases those of the New South Wales Flora Online site known as ©Plantnet which is hosted by the Australian National Botanic Gardens. A link to this site is contained on the Home page.
